There's a lot of handwringing these days about "ransomware attacks" where companies' data is encrypted & a ransom (usually bitcoin) is demanded to unencrypt it. The real injustice here is that a company is forced to *trust* their data to someone inherently untrustworthy. Any time you need to click "I ACCEPT" on a software product to access your data, you're in precisely the same situation. Most proprietary software biz modes are indistinguishable from ransomware models.
